01 Launch
It started with a satellite
At IIT Madras I studied Engineering Design, majoring in mechatronics, robotics and automation, and spent two years heading the Command & Data Management System of IITMSAT, the student-built nano-satellite. That’s the on-board computer: it decodes telecommands from the ground station and sends back time-stamped telemetry.
Systems engineering under hard constraints: international space standards, fixed hardware, a fixed budget.
Ran a team inside a student satellite programme: planning, sourcing, delivery.
Where I learned that learning technology is about people, not the technology.
32-bit ARM, embedded C, telecommand decoding, telemetry packets. The IEEE paper has the design.

Mar 2015 – May 2017IITMSAT — IIT Madras student satellite · Chennai
- Headed the Command & Data Management System — the satellite’s on-board computer — and its flight software.
- Designed software within international space standards and hardware limits; built the module in-house, well under budget.

Beyond the one-pager
- IITMSAT’s mission: study how high-energy protons and electrons from the Van Allen belts rain down into low Earth orbit, using the SPEED payload, and look for links with seismic activity.
- The on-board computer ran on a 32-bit ARM microcontroller (Freescale KL46Z); I wrote its flight software in embedded C and sourced the space-grade hardware.
- Co-authored “Design of Command and Data Management System for IITMSAT”, IEEE IconSpace 2015, Langkawi, Malaysia.
An invention on the side
A variable-speed mechanism that removes chain shifting from bicycles: a mechatronics student’s itch, scratched.
My first lesson in learning tech
I built an app that helped students with cerebral palsy navigate friendships. It taught me that technology in learning is about people. That lesson is why Trivo AI Labs exists.
